It’s March and we all know what that means….. MARCH MADNESS! Headed to the game with friends? Watching on the couch? maybe you’re an athlete that’s playing!? Whatever the situation, we have some March Madness/Basketball chiropractic tips for you!
For the game watchers
- Drink Plenty of Water
It’s important to keep your body hydrated throughout the day. Water is the best beverage for you to drink because it hydrates your muscles, it helps you control calories, it helps your kidneys and it helps maintain normal bowel functions.
- Follow the 50/10 Rule
Every 50 minutes of watching the game, should be followed by a quick “10” or break. During this time, walk around, stretch, maybe head to the bathroom – do anything that gets you moving!
- Watch What Your Eat
It’s easy to grab snacks like chips, fries or cookies, but indulging in these types of foods are not good for your health. The best advice we can give you is to plan ahead! Add some healthy foods into your pallet such as fruits, veggies and mixed nuts.
- Drink Plenty of Water
Athletes are not exempt from water intake. In fact, athletes should consistently drink water before, after and during the game. Water is the most vital nutrient they can consume during the game.
- Warm Up
It’s important to warm up and stretch before you play basketball. Stretching will loosen your muscles and can help prevent injuries.
- Wear Supportive Shoes
Because footwear plays such an important role in the function of bones and joints, choosing the right shoe can help prevent pain in your back, hips, knees, and feet. ACA Basketball players should find shoes provide cushioning for shock absorption while running/jumping. They also need a shoe that is stable for side-to-side movement. Basketball shoes should bend easily at the ball of the foot. They should also support the heel.
