HIIT runIt seems like a lot of the Appleton and Fox Cities areas are filling up with workout facilities, workout classes and trainers that focus on HIIT. What is HIIT?  HIIT is also known as high-intensity interval training involves short intervals of maximum intense exercises broken-up by longer intervals of low-moderate exercise. As a matter of fact, HIIT, was named one of the top fitness trends in the world for 2019, based on an annual survey by the American College of Sports Medicine.

HIIT helps burn calories during and even after your workout and can be extremely beneficial to your overall health! These workouts supply oxygen to the rest of your cells and tissues, which can maintain your weight and regulate cholesterol levels. HITT keeps your heart guessing. For those of us that are regular gym goers, we’ve all hit that lull of a boring routine. (Treadmill running, machine weights, etc.) When you perform a HIIT you switch up between sets, reps and workouts. Less taxing on your joints than the good ‘ol pavement run!

How Can HIIT Help Me?

Experts recommend only two to three times a week of 15 minute HIIT sessions! Anyone can make time for that! If you cannot join a gym or course with a HIIT-focus, we have some suggestions of HIIT you can try:

  • Warm up should last around 3-5 minutes
  • Alternate your speed and recovery intervals
  • Keep interval lengths under 2 minutes
  • Try using different machines (treadmill, stair climber, jumping rope, etc.) after every 5-7 minutes
  • Spend 3-5 minutes on a cool down

HIIT can be cardio focused or weightlifting focused.
