Physicians are now recommending at least 1000 IU of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) daily and an average of 15 minutes a day of sunlight exposure, although the true requirement may be greater. Geographically, all Wisconsin residents are at risk for vitamin D deficiency, especially during the winter.
