Higgins Chiropractic believes in a course of care that we call the Hierarchy of Care. This means that for a given condition, treatment should begin at the most conservative level then move up the ladder to more complex treatments, as needed.

For instance, let’s consider a patient with acute low back pain. Instead of going straight to a neurosurgeon right away, we believe the patient should start with a conservative treatment approach. This could include chiropractic care, physical therapy, massage therapy, or a combination of the three.

If these treatments don’t yield sufficient results, the patient would be referred up to the next level of care. In this case, it might be a physiatrist who would explore the possibility of doing an injection.

Lastly, if that course of treatment was not effective, the patient would be referred onto a neurosurgeon for a surgical consult.

The purpose of the Hierarchy of Care is to get patients better with the simplest methods possible. This helps to avoid unnecessary invasive procedures, which can have undesirable side effects.

At Higgins Chiropractic we have a 6 visit promise that before or during a patient’s sixth visit, we will be able to determine the effectiveness of the treatment and together decide how to best proceed with your care. It takes more than one treatment to help a person feel better and we don’t want to pressure you into visiting our office 20 times for the same issue. We want to help you get the most out of chiropractic care in six visits or less!
